Some people don’t even know what the disorder even is. It’s important to speak out and get involved in any way you can. You can help contribute to Fibromyalgia awareness and you can be a voice in the silence. There are many different ways to get involved. The suggestions below are just a few of many.

May 12 is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. All over the planet people who suffer from the disorder, caregivers, support teams and others do their best to bring attention to the disorder.

Find Support Through Social Media

You could join a social media page to help raise the question, what is fibromyalgia or to raise Fibromyalgia awareness or even start one! These pages can be really helpful in that they bring people of all walks of life together to talk about living with fibromyalgia pain and what has and hasn’t helped them.

At the very least, reaching out on social media is a way to feel less isolated and better understood. It’s a great way to meet new people and even make new friends.

Find A Local Support Group

If there are Fibromyalgia support groups in your area, feel free to join. If there isn’t, you could even start one. Again, being a part of a group of people going through the same thing you are is a way to feel far less alone.

It’s also a great way to brainstorm ideas, share information about fibromyalgia causes, fibromyalgia treatment and fibromyalgia natural treatment, or brainstorm ideas about how you can shed light on the disorder.

Fund Raise

There are many organizations that raise money and Fibromyalgia awareness. Becoming a part of these groups, donating money or fundraising for them is a great way to bring awareness to the disorder and raise money for future research.

There is the American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association, the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association and the National Fibromyalgia Association, to name a few.

You could choose to fundraise through a variety of different ways. The door is always wide open and you might be surprised how many people are willing to step up and help.

Speak Out

One of the best ways to raise awareness is just to speak out. Be willing to talk about your experiences. Many of your co-workers, friends and even family members won’t understand what living with the disorder is like.

Even some medical professionals don’t recognize Fibromyalgia is a legitimate condition. Be prepared to be your own advocate and to stand up for yourself and those affected by the disorder.

You can do this in person, over social media, in the medical world, to the media or you can get creative and do things like making a video for YouTube or social media explaining what life is like with the disorder or plan a fundraising event that is meant to be informative.

You might feel that since being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia that you’re been given a life sentence. It can be hard to be hopeful and optimistic about living with chronic pain.

Some studies have shown that adults diagnosed with Fibromyalgia are more likely to lose their jobs and lose support of family, friends and co-workers than others suffering from similar conditions. The important thing to remember, throughout the journey of living a life with Fibromyalgia, is that there is hope.

There are others who are walking the same road and there are many treatment options.
